The temple of Kom Ombo is the only one of the five largest Greco-Roman temples built on Egyptian soil that has not benefited from any modern architectural study. The state of conservation of the sanctuary is probably the reason why researchers have neglected it. Unfortunately, this site, visited by thousands of tourists every day, is subject to various problems of wear and tear, and it is becoming urgent to study it before certain information is lost forever.
The objective of this research is therefore to address the different aspects of the design of the temple, ranging from the environmental context to questions related to the construction of spaces around theological functions and the evolution of construction methods and techniques.
To answer these questions, since 2023 an international team led by Aurélie Terrier has been surveying the structures inside the sanctuary. The various digital tools used in this project allow this study to be approached in a completely innovative way.
